Yoga style: Yin Yoga
Yin Yoga is a very calm yoga practice that includes many elements of a meditative mindfulness practice . This means that Yin Yoga stands in contrast to all dynamic yoga styles , such as Ashtanga Yoga or Vinyasa Flow . This is precisely why it can also serve very well as a supplement to the aforementioned strengthening and more body-oriented yoga styles.
Yin Yoga is usually practiced lying on the floor, but sometimes also while sitting . Individual stretching body positions are usually held passively for several minutes. This serves to maintain and strengthen the natural freedom of movement of the joints .
It's about relaxing in the asanas and letting your breath flow freely. The term Yin comes from Chinese and while Yin (the female principle) stands for calm, gentleness and stability , Yang (the male principle) stands for performance orientation, dynamism and extroversion.
Yin yoga is also suitable for pregnant women . Paul Grilley and his student Sarah Powers are considered the founders of modern Yin Yoga.
