Kundalini yoga is a yoga practice that goes back to ancient tantric practices . The focus of Kundalini Yoga is on physical and meditative elements . Through a dynamic combination of breathing techniques, mantras, mudras (energy-directing gestures) and specific postures (asanas) , this style of yoga aims to awaken our life energy and balance our chakras .
Origin and meaning of Kundalini Yoga
The roots of Kundalini Yoga reach back to ancient yogic traditions. More precisely, in a current of tantra, the so-called Shiva-Shakti philosophy . This assumes that every person has a cosmic primal energy (Shakti) and a great potential of skills and talents as well as a pure consciousness (Shiva) that needs to be awakened. If the word Kundalini is translated as “snake power,” the so-called Kundalini energy symbolizes a sleeping snake.
Yogi Bhajan reformed this philosophy in the 1970s and eventually brought it to the West in a contemporary form. The central importance still lies in the awakening of the Kundalini energy , which is now believed to be a sleeping spiritual force in the lower back area of the human being . Kundalini Yoga seeks to direct this energy upward through the spine to promote spiritual awareness and enlightenment.
