Short description Yin Yoga

Yin Yoga is a calm, meditative and reflective style of yoga that is based on physical exercises (asanas) that are practiced while sitting or lying down and are held for long periods of time. The physical exercises were derived from classic Hatha Yoga and supplemented by various Indian and Chinese influences, as well as findings from Western science about the human body. In contrast to more dynamic yoga styles, in which the muscles are actively strengthened, Yin Yoga aims to stimulate the deeper connective tissue, fascia and joints. This happens by holding the asanas for a long time.

Origin and meaning of Yin Yoga

Yin Yoga is based on the Chinese concept of Yin and Yang from the philosophy of Daoism . Yin, as a female, passive and calm energy, and Yang, as a male, active and dynamic energy, are considered opposite forces and yet form an inseparable unity. In relation to the human body, the connective tissue, the ligaments and tendons (Yin) and our muscles (Yang) form this inseparable unit that needs to be strengthened. This is where the philosophy of Yin Yoga comes in. A balance between the two forces is sought to promote health and flexibility of the body and achieve a deeper level of relaxation and mindfulness.

Target group Yin Yoga (suitable for)

Anyone who longs for a calm balance from the stress of everyday life, athletes and athletes, people who sit a lot, older people, people with injuries or other limitations

The target group of Yin Yoga is very diverse. It is a style of yoga that can be adapted to different needs and is good for almost everyone. Due to its calm and meditative character, this yoga practice is particularly suitable for finding relaxation outside of stress and everyday life and for finding some peace and quiet. This style of yoga can also be the right one for athletes who are looking for a balance to intensive training sessions. The deep stretches and long endurance in the asanas help to improve the body's flexibility, prevent injuries, relieve tension and increase general mobility.

People who spend a lot of time sitting can also benefit from Yin Yoga to loosen up stiffness in muscles and joints. Thanks to the calm and gentle execution, this yoga practice is also suitable for people with injuries or older people to maintain and support the flexibility of the joints. Depending on your needs, the exercises can of course always be adapted accordingly.
