Short description Vinyasa Flow Yoga

The focus in Vinyasa Flow Yoga is to move from one asana to the next as smoothly as possible . You only hold the individual positions for a short time and orientate yourself on a certain number of breaths. This makes this yoga style a dynamic and often sweaty style of yoga.

In contrast to Ashtanga Yoga, Vinyasa Flow does not consist of fixed sequences of asanas. The respective exercises can be selected based on personal preferences. By adapting to the respective needs of the practicing yogi(ni), this style of yoga is a very flexible and free form of yoga.

Origin and meaning of Vinyasa Flow Yoga

Vinyasa Flows is closely related to Ashtanga Yoga, which, in addition to the yoga postures themselves, also involves the movement between the individual asanas. Derived from classic Hatha Yoga , the Asansa were supplemented with dynamic elements to bring breath and movement into harmony. The so-called Vinyasa principle goes back to the teachings of Sri Krishnamacharya . His idea was to deepen concentration and body awareness throughout the practice. So the goal is to keep deep breathing and body awareness consistent throughout all movements, rather than first getting deep into the pose and then breathing, as in Yin Yoga, for example.

The word Vinyasa itself comes from Sanskrit and is made up of two syllables. "Vi" can be translated as "in a certain way" and "nyasa" as " to put." The word therefore describes that certain sequences are strung together in a certain way. This essentially corresponds to the definition of Vinyasa Flow Yoga already given.

Target group Vinyasa Flow Yoga (suitable for)

Vinyasa Flow Yoga is particularly suitable for people who are looking for a dynamic and sporty yoga practice . This style can also be the right choice if you are plagued by restlessness, wandering thoughts and stress in everyday life. When we are restless inside, it can sometimes be difficult to go straight to calm and relaxation, as is the case with Yin Yoga, for example. Through a gentle Vinyasa Flow practice, we focus on sequences of movements and our breathing, which calms the mind and allows the body to better balance the acute stress.

Vinyasa Flow can also be practiced by beginners and advanced practitioners alike. While Vinyasa Flow beginners courses usually consist of learning the combination of breathing and movement, in Vinyasa Flow courses for advanced students the individual positions are improved or varied.

Example series of exercises Vinyasa Flow Yoga

Examples of asanas of this yoga style include forward bends, back bends or twisting and inversion postures , which are fluently connected to each other. The sun salutation can also be a classic part of a Vinyasa flow unit.
