Short description Bikram/Hot Yoga

Bikram Yoga: Also known as hot yoga , this style of yoga involves performing a set sequence of specific yoga asanas and breathing exercises that promote flexibility, strength and endurance . However, the whole thing does not take place at normal temperatures, but deliberately in a heated room, even at temperatures of 35 to 40 degrees. The high humidity causes the body to sweat, tendons, ligaments and muscles are well supplied with blood and the loss of water also detoxifies the body. The spiritual elements that are otherwise widespread in yoga take a back seat in this style of yoga.

Origin and meaning of Bikram/Hot Yoga

Bikram Yoga was popularized by the Indian yoga master Bikram Choudhury and is a modified form of Hatha Yoga . The teacher's basic idea was that heat makes the body more flexible and promotes detoxification processes. In the 1970s, Bikram Choudhury emigrated to the United States and opened his first yoga studio in Los Angeles. He began teaching his Bikram yoga system and quickly gained popularity. The heating of the room , combined with the set sequence of asanas , made Bikram yoga an intense, sweaty practice aimed at physical challenge and purification.
