There are a large number of yoga associations in Germany and Austria. To shed some light on the jungle, we have created an overview for you. We briefly introduce the individual yoga associations and explain their main concerns to you.

If you are interested in training to become a yoga teacher, it can sometimes be helpful to look at professional associations. Some professional associations offer their own training courses or have defined training standards and certify schools.

Yoga associations in Germany

BdfY (Professional Association of Independent Yoga Teachers and Yoga Therapists) The BdfY would like to spread knowledge about the art of living in yoga and, as a professional association, is particularly committed to the specialist and job-specific interests of yoga teachers and yoga therapists. The association also offers yoga teacher training in 500 hours as well as yoga therapy training in 200 hours and 700 hours. More info? It's this way.

BDY (Professional Association of Yoga Teachers in Germany) is the largest yoga association and has over 4,600 members. The association brings together yoga teachers from different traditions and styles. He is committed to ensuring that yoga is used not only as a preventative measure but also as a measure to accompany therapy. BUGY (Professional Association of Independent Health Science Yoga Teachers) BUGY brings together yoga teachers who, in their professional activities, feel obliged to justify their teaching content based on health science. BYAT ( The Professional Association of Yoga and Ayurveda Therapists) is a professional association for the dissemination of therapeutic knowledge, therapeutic applications, techniques and exercises based on holistic yoga, Ayurveda, the Vedic sciences and related disciplines for the human body, mind and soul ideal basis. The purpose of the association is to represent the intellectual and general economic interests of the profession of yoga and Ayurveda therapists. More info? This way.

BYV (The Professional Association of Yoga Vidya Teachers) is the second largest association in Germany and trains the most yoga teachers per year (approx. 1000 yoga teachers per year). The Yoga Vidya Association follows the tradition of the Indian yoga master Swami Sivananda. Swami Vishnu-devananda was a student of Sivananda and brought the previously relatively unknown yoga to the USA and Germany in order to promote “health, peace and unity” in the world. Sukadev Bretz, founder of Yoga Vidya, learned from Vishnu davananda and now runs Germany's largest yoga seminar center and Europe's largest training institute for yoga teachers with his association. The association offers a variety of affordable training opportunities; The most common is the 4-week intensive yoga training according to Vishnu Devananda, which is quite cheap at around 2,000 euros. DeGIT (German Society for Yoga Therapy) The association would like to use the holistic teachings and practices of yoga specifically to maintain health or cure illnesses. He also strives for yoga therapy to be recognized as a form of treatment in the German healthcare system. DYG (German Yoga Society eV) The German Yoga Society was the first German yoga school (since 1921). Today it has renamed itself Uryoga and offers training. Unfortunately, the website offers little information about it. http://www.yoga-uryoga.de/ Iyengar-Yoga Deutschland eV Iyengar Yoga in Germany is organized through this association, which was founded in 1994. 3H Organization Germany eV The 3H organization follows the tradition of Kundalini Yoga and represents over 2000 members. Yoga Association in Austria

BYO (Professional Association of Yoga Teachers in Austria). It is very important to the Austrian Yoga Association to ensure well-founded training. He takes care of the promotion and dissemination of the teachings and practice of yoga and promotes cooperation between yoga institutions. More info? It's this way.

YVO (Yoga Association Austria) supports Austrian yoga teachers so that yoga of the highest quality can be spread in Austria. To this end, attention is paid to compliance with international quality standards such as the Yoga Alliance or the International Yoga Federation. International Yoga Association

AYA (American Yoga Alliance). Many training courses in Vinyasa, Jivamukti or Anusara are recognized by the American Yoga Alliance according to the standard requirements for the 200+ hour certification.
