On June 1, 2017, we received an email from the Yoga Vidya professional association to all association members about advertising posters from the Felix Burda Foundation "Yoga can be deadly" with the subject "Felix Burda Foundation is once again discrediting yoga for advertising purposes", which we don't want to withhold from you:
Dear association members, dear teachers, dear yoginis and yogis,
The Felix Burda Foundation, which is particularly committed to the issue of colon cancer prevention in March, is unfortunately advertising again this year with the very provocative series of advertisements that it also used in March 2016: The theme of the campaign is “Excuses can be fatal “- in one picture you can see a woman on a bike with the sentence “Yoga can be fatal” - only in the small print is this statement qualified by the sentence “if that’s why you don’t go for bowel care”.
This ad puts yoga in a false light, because exactly the opposite happens through yoga practice: the feeling and awareness of one's own body is refined - this is also confirmed by many scientific studies. Yoga Vidya stands for in-depth yoga teaching that gives yoga teachers the skills to teach in a health-promoting way.
In order to draw attention to this misleading wording, the BYV contacted the Felix Burda Foundation in 2016 and now to draw attention to this incorrect statement. We hope they don't run this ad again in 2018.
