Asana is one of the best-known practices of yoga – and at the same time one of the most misunderstood. In this weekend seminar, we will delve deeply into the original meaning and practice of asanas as they are described in the classical Hatha Yoga texts.

2. the therapeutic and energetic effects of the asanas

3. Selected asanas in their traditional execution and application

The seminar is aimed at yoga practitioners, teachers and interested individuals who wish to understand the deeper dimension of āsana practice beyond the purely physical aspects.

Āsana is one of the most well-known yogic practices—and yet, one of the most misunderstood. In this weekend seminar, we will explore the true essence and purpose of āsanas as described in the classical Haṭha-yogic texts.

M.Ed., Ph.D., D.Litt., ND, DYEd. Diploma in Yoga Therapy, Sports Medicine, Physiotherapy, and Sports Journalism; Director of the Lonavla Yoga Institute LYI, India. Areas of focus in yoga teacher training include classical yoga, Sanskrit, and mantra.

‍Dr. Manmath Gharote is director of the Lonavla Yoga Institute (India).

He holds a Ph.D. in sports science, the first Ph.D. of its kind at the University of Mumbai.

He has published over 25 scholarly works dealing with ancient yoga manuscripts. For his outstanding work on and based upon classical yoga texts, he was awarded a Doctor of Letters in Yoga (Honoris Causa).

He has led more than 150 yoga seminars in Latin America, Europe, and Asia. He has also conducted 10 international yoga conferences and 8 international yoga workshops.

He is a consultant for several international yoga organizations, a member of the Board for Yoga & Sports Culture at the University of Pune, India, and has received numerous national and international awards.
